There has always been some level of interest in seeing Maguire get one more solo Spider-Man movie, especially after Spider-Man 3's reception. However, the development process never fully came together, resulting in Sony moving on from Raimi's vision in favor of a reboot. The movie was supposed to release in 2011 and continue the successful franchise. There is also the possibility that Maguire's Spider-Man return interest could actually help Sony move forward with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4.
